ReSilience of long-lived MARine sTructural species in a changing world: towards a sustainable coastal management and restoration (SMART)

Pol Capdevila Lanzaco is a PhD student at the Department of Ecology of the University of Barcelona under the supervision of Dr. Bernat Hereu (UB) and Dra. Cristina Linares (UB). His thesis project is about benthic communties dominated by deep seaweeds of the genus Cystoseira, where the main objective is to determine the mechanisms of reisilience of these species facing global change, in order to design effective tools for their conservation and restoration. The thesis is funded by the FI fellowship program of the Catalonia Government. Previously, Pol participated in projects related with the impacts of fishing on the biology and ecology of comercial fishes; population dynamics of sea urchins at different temporal and spatial scale and, the role of marine reserves in the algae-sea urchins-fishes interactions; and establishing a baseline for Eunicella singularis populations in Port-Cros National Park.
